What Does HVAC Mean?

We’ll start with a simple yet frequent question. HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. Triple T Heating & Cooling technicians have studied modern and traditional makes and models to better help our community of homeowners and landlords. We approach every job with a can-do attitude and will handle any task you need to ensure your comfort and safety during the extreme months.

How Does My HVAC System Work?

There are many types of HVAC systems on the market, and each performs a little differently. No need to worry though, our team knows the ins and outs of all available options in Utah and Washington County, UT. Below are some common types of HVAC systems and how they work:

Heating and Air Conditioning Split System: The most common type of an HVAC systemthis option uses indoor and outdoor components to bring warm and cool air into your home. The air conditioner outside of your home is designed to cool the refrigerant and then bring it in, while your furnace inside has a fan with a coil to get you warm air. They both utilize a duct system built throughout the home to deliver the desired temperature to all your rooms. There are also plenty of accessories such as purifiers, humidifiers, and more. We can add them all to help you get the best air possible.

Duct-Free Split System: This is a great HVAC system if you have rooms that can’t have ductwork installed. As the name states, it doesn’t use a duct system to push warm or cold air. Instead, they focus on maintaining the temperature in one particular room. You may also see them referred to as a ductless mini-split.

Zoned Systems: If you have rooms that don’t need any temperature control, this is a stellar option for you. It can also help save you money by purposefully not delivering regulated air to a room or “zone” in your home. There’s no sense in having your HVAC system work harder to push comfortable air to these areas. They are also moveable, so if you decide you want to bring hot or cold air to this previously blocked zone, it is straightforward.

What Parts are in the HVAC System?

Understanding the different working parts of your HVAC unit will go a long way into figuring out the problems before you call us to visit. Having this information allows us to work quickly to develop the solution needed to get your air conditioner or furnace. Below are the main functioning parts of your HVAC system:

  • Thermostat – As the central controller of your HVAC system, this device is used to program your air conditioner or furnace to reach the desired temperature within your home. There are many different options now, including digital and Bluetooth-controlled.
  • Furnace – The most substantial portion of your HVAC system is the furnace’s control of creating warm or hot air and then distributing it through your ductwork throughout the house. It can make this heat with either gas or solar energy, electricity, or heat pumps.
  • Evaporator Coil – After you set the thermostat to a lower temperature, the evaporator coil gets to work making cold air. Once it’s reached the requested temperature, it then gets pushed throughout the home through your ducts.
  • Condensing Unit – Filled with refrigerant gas, this portion of your HVAC system is stored outside. It is responsible for cooling down the liquid and then pumping it to the evaporator coil to spread throughout the house.
  • Vents – Whether installed throughout the ceiling or the floor, these vents are connected in most rooms in your home. They carry the air pushed from your air conditioner or furnace. They release the air through vents and should never be blocked by furniture or other items.

How Often Should I Service My HVAC System?

HVAC maintenance is essential when trying to get the most from your system. On average, these units last anywhere from 10-15 years, and having it regularly serviced saves you money and time before replacement expenses. Our specialists recommend you have us out to your home twice a year before the winter and summer months hit. These times of the year are when your HVAC system is used the most. After a thorough inspection of all the parts, we can decide if further action is needed to ensure it works properly. These inspections also help prevent minor issues from becoming major issues that cost you more money down the line

Which HVAC System is Right for My Home?

Deciding the right HVAC system for your home can be a challenging task if youre unaware of what to look for in the appliances. The professionals at Triple T Heating & Cooling are prepared to help you find the perfect fit. We will take into account the needs you have for heating and cooling, the size of your home, and what source of power you are using to keep them running. We have worked with all makes and models to safeguard you from making a mistake when purchasing. You could waste money by buying one too large for your space. And if you buy too small of a unit, it will likely have to work harder and cost you more each month because due to inefficiency.

How Often Should I Replace My HVAC Air Filters?

The air filter is another essential piece in your HVAC system. It is designed to block dirt, dust, and dander from entering your home, and you need to change it every once in a while. Otherwise, you will begin to notice a rise in respiratory issues and sickness. You may also see dust gathering quicker on your furniture and knick-knacks. The suggested time for switching then out will vary based on your HVAC system’s size and use, but a general timeframe is every three months. Keep your air conditioner and furnace working at their most efficient level possible by switching out your air filters regularly.

What are the Benefits of a Ductless Mini Split System?

Ductless mini spilt systems can easily be installed high on your wall or in the ceiling of each room. There is no big remodeling needed to get these connected to your home. With traditional HVAC systems, it can be difficult to reach and maintain certain temperatures due to the size of the space and its furniture. You can also have drafty windows, allowing the air to escape quickly. These appliances will also cost you less on your monthly energy bills. With a traditional duct, you can lose up to 30% of your air by the time it gets to each room. Uneven cooling and heating mean you will experience different temperatures in each room of your home.

How is Energy Efficiency Measured?

The efficiency of your HVAC system depends on how well it can deliver the desired temperatures throughout your home. S.E.E.R. (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) is the measurement used to determine how effective your air conditioner and furnace or other heating unit is at making your home comfortable. The higher the S.E.E.R. number or rating, the more efficient your system is. One way to tell if your system is losing efficiency is by checking your energy bill. If it is slightly rising month after month, you should give Triple T Heating & Cooling a call.
