Using an Air Purifier or Humidifier Can Improve Indoor Air Quality

undefinedCold or unpredictable weather can mean that you’re spending more time inside your home. The use of heating systems can have a significant effect on the quality or the air inside your home. We’ve talked about indoor air quality on the blog before, but we believe it’s a topic that deserves another look.

To improve the quality of the air inside your home, we offer both air purifiers and humidifiers that are designed to make your home more comfortable.

WHAT DOES AN AIR PURIFIER DO?

An air purifier removes a variety of contaminants from the environment using high quality filters. Some units actually use UV light systems that are designed to kill viruses and things that could make you or your family sick.

There are two main types of air purifiers: whole home purifiers and room units.

Whole home units are used in homes with forced air heating and cooling. This type of purifier uses a variety of unique filters. There are many  filters to choose from, including the conventional fiber glass filter, or an electrically charged filter that is designed to pick up particles or dust. It basically blocks all the  stuff that you don’t want floating around in your home. These filters need to be changed every few months.

Room units are portable and weigh anywhere from 10-20 pounds. These units may use a HEPA filter that must be replaced annually, while others use electro-static precipitator or ionizer technology.

WHAT DOES A HUMIDIFIER DO?

A humidifier is something that you can add to nearly any HVAC unit to monitor the levels of moisture in your home and to add moisture when needed. A sensor inside the unit turns the humidifier on and off when needed. These adjustments are based on the relative humidity in the air. According to the Mayo Clinic, the ideal humidity level in a home is between 30 and 50 percent.

There are two different types: Portable, which are designed for the home owner to move from room to room and the ducted type, which are designed to mount on your homes heating system and uses the duct system to push the humidity to each room in the home.

Our EPA-certified technicians can help you find the right unit, whether you need an air purifier or a humidifier, to make your indoor air quality top notch. We want you and your family to be as comfortable as possible. Give Triple T a call today to get the process started.
