Cleaning a Furnace Filter

Cleaning a Furnace Filter

Your furnace’s filter is essential for keeping your system’s components clean. One of the best ways to maintain your furnace to clean or replace the filter on a regular basis. How often you replace your filter depends on what kind you have, but generally it’s a good idea to check it once a month during the peak heating season.

First, you should turn off the power to the furnace; then, remove the furnace panel that conceals the filter. Remove the filter and hose it down until it’s as clean as possible. After letting the filter dry, pop it back into place. If you have a filter with a cardboard frame, you should replace it instead of cleaning it.
